BTM 50: Building A MultiFamily Empire with Eric Bowlin

Eric accidentally got into real estate back in college when he and his wife decided to buy a house near the University. They purchased a 3 unit building, living in one unit and renting the rest. One night while watching a movie with his wife, he heard a knock on the door. It was one of their tenants there to pay rent. At that moment he realized that I would become a real estate investor. That was the easiest money he had ever earned in his entire life. At that moment he realized that I would become a real estate investor.

Eric Bowlin started investing in real estate in 2009 with the purchase of his first three family property. He got into real estate full time at the end of 2011 and became financially independent at the end of 2015 when he quit his job forever.

Now, Eric is working on larger multifamily deals and syndications. He owns or is a GP on over 470 doors in Massachusetts and Texas. Also, Eric talks constantly about financial independence and is the founder of IdealREI (a top resource for real estate investors trying to achieve financial freedom) and Stacking Millions (a community where investors can learn and grow together).

Today we have the pleasure of speaking with Contractor and Investor Thelonious C. Jones. In 2007  Thelonious moved from  Oakland California to Atlanta, Georgia to pursue a career in music but quickly realized the opportunity in real estate.  He purchased his first rental property at the age of 23 in 2009. By 2014 owned and managed a portfolio of over 25 units.

I’m not sure if there is a truly 100% passive investment out there but rental real estate comes pretty close, especially when you have the right property management team in place to oversee the day to day activities of your business.

Today we had the pleasure of interviewing multifamily investor, Sepehr Bekam. In our conversation, we learn about how we can truly create passive income with real estate investing through property management. We learn the pitfalls of hiring a bad manager  and we get to hear some horror stories as well.

Sep Bekam is founder and CEO of Bekam Investment Group. He is a former electrical engineer and started investing in 2010. He retired at the age of 31 and is a full-time, professional real estate investor. Sep and his Team have successfully repositioned challenging neighborhoods and have literally “moved the line” to make communities safer, cleaner, and more affordable. Bekam Investment Group currently owns 9 multi-family properties, an office building, and more than 120 houses in 5 states.
